A running list of things I’d look forward to doing with other people (or by myself 1).
- Climbing (rocks, trees, buildings, polyurethane, the ranks)
- Falling (but not too far)
- Tossing a frisbee
- Exploring (just walking/biking around, going somewhere new!)
- Flying kites (if you don’t have one, they’re cheap online)
- Playing certain 2 card games (bridge, Hearts…)
- Eating bagels (perhaps making bagels too?)
- Preparing simple foods (fruit salads, smoothies, flame on the iceberg, sushi)
- Playing certain board games (chess, Pictionary…)
- Playing certain talking games (Catchphrase, Secret Butler…)
- Reading, talking about recently-read books
- Working on a project (tech-related, building a fort, etc.)
- Watching certain movies and TV shows
- Entering Harry Potter trivia contests
- Writing, reading each other’s writing
- Trying new restaurants
- Trying old restaurants
- Walking up down-escalators
- Walking down up-escalators
- Walking on escalators and moving sidewalks (like in airports)!
- Taking stairs a half-flight at a time
- Going on searches for miscellaneous entities / objects (e.g. a blue jay)
- Playing capture the flag
- Sending long emails 3
- Escaping rooms
- Camping 4
- Trolling (this probably isn’t kosher to say)
- Creating in general (stories, collaborative art, etc.)
- Talking in low-lit areas
- Plank battles
- Reminiscing
- Dreaming
- Making (and occasionally giving) handmade articles
- Working on animations (certain people)
- Singing “The Vector Song”, etc.
- Feeding animals
- Solving puzzles (incl. jigsaw puzzles!)
- Solving “mysteries”
- Being excited about nothing
- Birding
- Winemaking / kombucha brewing
- Looking at maps (esp. Google Maps), geoguessing
- Engaging in the orange-eating challenge
- Visiting bookstores
- Inventing the “seven courses of X” and then trying it
- Chasing lighthouses
- Arranging things, designing floor plans and interiors
- Writing short essays about arbitrary subjects
- Homemade pizza delivery
- Sipping hot chocolate
Long-Distance Activities
Stuff that you can do with others over a long-distance call.
1 A note for the lonely: some of these activities are made a lot better by the company of fellow Homo sapiens. Contrary to popular belief, throwing a frisbee by yourself is not actually that riveting… coming from someone who’s done such a thing many times over. :’(
2 By this, I mean not Old Maid.
3 An unfortunate set of people know all about this hobby of mine.
4 Especially in the middle of winter and the middle of summer, and in overly small tents. x(
